Submission Guidelines
We accept submissions of original short stories and poems.
Your submission must be your own original creation and not previously published elsewhere. We only accept original, unpublished literary works for consideration.
We do not accept submissions of plagiarized, copied, or AI-generated content.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please be courteous & professional and notify us immediately by withdrawing your work if it is accepted elsewhere.
All submissions must adhere to the following:
All works must be in English. Please proofread for spelling and grammar. Orthographically challenged work will be automatically deleted.
Gratuitous profanity, vulgarity, or explicit sexual content will not be tolerated.
Depictions of violence should be restrained within reason and justified within the context of your narrative.
Works must not contain hate speech, harassment, or discrimination of any kind.
We do not accept activist agendas, and work that is politically charged will be deleted.
We love historical fiction that is engaging and well-researched.
We do not accept submissions of plagiarized, copied, or AI-generated content.
Submissions should not infringe on copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights.
Length and Formatting:
Short Stories: Maximum length is 1,500 words — please specify word count at the top right of your file.
Poetry: Submit 2-5 poems, Maximum length is 40 lines; there is no minimum length.
Haiku / Senryu: 5-10 haiku untitled, preferably non—5-7-5 format.
Haibun: 100-300 words.
File Format: Submissions should be in Word.docx format.
Font and Layout: Use 12-point Times New Roman only.
Spacing: Prose—Double-space text, flush left, no paragraph indent. Extra space between paragraphs. Poetry—Single-spaced, title and content flush left.
Title and Author Name: Include a bold title at the top of the first page, followed by your name.
Author Bio: Please include a third-person author bio (70 words or less indicating publication credits, if any, current profession & place of residence, etc.) and an author photo (optional) in JPEG file. We reserve the right to edit author bios.
File Naming: Your file name should be your work’s title followed by your name (Rocky Road_Joe Smith.docx).
Submissions that fail to follow our guidelines will not be acknowledged
Submission Process:
Single Submission: You can submit in only one genre at a time, i.e., poetry or prose.
If your work is declined, please wait three months before submitting new material.

Subject line should read: SUBMISSION: Poetry (or Prose) by Joe Smith.
You will be notified within 30 days if your work is accepted.
THE WOODSIDE REVIEW maintains first publication rights. Please credit us as the first publisher of your work in subsequent reprints.
We are completely volunteer-run, and unfortunately cannot pay contributors at this time. Submissions will always be free.
